LARGE AKU'ABA BRASS FERTILITY DOLL PENDANT
LARGE AKU'ABA BRASS FERTILITY DOLL PENDANT
Aku'aba or Akwaba, also known simply as fertility dolls are believed to gift those who keep them the power of fertility and serve as a good luck charm to a healthy and safe delivery of the keeper's child.
While several tribes in West Africa cherish the sacredness of the fertility doll, the Fante tribe of the Akan Group in Western Ghana are often associated with the Akuaba as they have matrilineal lineages.
Traditionally a woman would wear a doll on her back when wishing to conceive or ensure the healthy birth of their soon-to-be born. It would then be passed down to their daughter.
