A tote bag made from plastic drinking sachets used in Ghana. Water sachets are typically littered in the streets, waterways and oceans as garbage and recycling facilities remain scarce.

Sewn together one by one, reducing waste one tote bag at a time! They conventioently zip up into a pouch to carry wherever you go, featuring a beautiful 100% cotton African print cover.

The bags are made by a registered foundation in the Western Region of Ghana that helps young women between ages 14 and 18 in impoverished situations by giving them free vocational training in sewing, batik-making and more.

Because schooling after primary school is typically costly, young women in the village often resort to moving to the cities thinking they will find work and end up being forced to sell on the street at a young age in order to support themselves, ending up in precarious situations that often include domestic abuse.

The training center has been able to offer free vocational education to help start up their own business. This allows women from the village to stay in their villages and contribute to the local economy. At the end of the program, they receive a sewing machine at graduation and some start-up cash.
